The National Charity

I'm on a rant today. I wonder how the people of the United States would react if the US government required people to buy GM cars!! By using my tax money to bail out GM and others that is, in essence, what is being done.

Consumers chose not to buy automobiles and trucks at prices bloated with unreasonable labor and employee healthcare costs. Decades of bad management decisions and poorly negotiated labor agreements will have limited consequences.
Yes I'm oversimplifing this but I believe my point is valid. When the government interferes with free market forces there are always unintended consequences. The practical solution, one dictated by a free market, would involve some pain for both management and the unions but the result would be a stronger industry.
In a free market citizens are not forced to subsidize private industry. In a free market there are casualties for sure, just like any other aspect of human endeavor, yet the survivors are always sucessful.
Did the framers of our constitution mean for the US government to become a national charity? In a perfect world every Congressman and Senator would be required to read and demonstrate understanding of, milton Friedman's 'Free To Choose' before casting a single vote.

Last night the family watched Monster Quest on the History Channel. The show was about possible Sasquatch sightings at Snelgrove Lake Ont.

This is a Lake managed by Chuck and Cathy Mossbeck of True North Outposts. We have been going on fly in fishing vacations for many years with them. The show was interesting and featured quite a bit of Chuck and his DeHavilland Turbo Beaver C-GDCN.

This past June while on our trip to Musk Lake, Roger Mayer (a/k/a 'little' Rog), a jester in our fishing group had said he was going to catch a Northern while fishing naked this year. I was getting in one of the boats with John Ellis and shouted up to the cabin at Roger that we were going fishing naked. Roger tore off his clothes and ran down the hill shouting 'wait for me'.

At the time it was extremely funny and Jim Devaney snapped a picture of Rog halfway down the hill. When we got home and I looked at the picture I immediately labeled it 'Sasquatch'.

It was eerie to see Chuck on the History Channel in a show about Sasquatch at one of the other lakes. I immediately sent a copy of the picture to Chuck and Cathy and told them we had the only daytime picture of the famous monster and they could feel free to share it with the scientists at the history Channel.
